Raid des Alizés in Martinique

What is the Raid des Alizés?

Created in 2015 with the Martinique Tourism Authority, the Raid des Alizés is a 100% women’s multisport raid held every year in Martinique. Originally conceived as a sporting challenge, over the years the event has grown into a true human and charitable adventure, where pushing personal limits goes hand in hand with mutual support, kindness and sharing.

Over several days, participants compete in teams across Martinique’s natural landscapes, with each team supporting a charitable or social cause. Beyond rankings and sporting performance, the Raid des Alizés is above all a collective experience: pushing your limits together and using sporting effort to support a cause.

What are the challenges in the Raid des Alizés?

Over four days of multisport challenges, participants take on a range of outdoor disciplines, mainly trail running, mountain biking and kayaking. Depending on the edition, combined or surprise challenges may also be added to the programme.

Raid des Alizés challenges

Trail running, kayaking and mountain biking: the Raid des Alizés combines a range of outdoor challenges across Martinique.

One of the distinctive features of the Raid des Alizés is that the routes remain secret until the last moment. Teams gradually discover the distances, routes and challenges ahead as they make their way through a variety of natural landscapes across Martinique.

Distances and levels of difficulty therefore vary from one challenge and edition to another. Endurance, adaptability and teamwork are essential to complete the adventure. The Raid requires serious physical preparation, but performance is not the only goal: participants also progress through mutual support and a shared desire to push their limits.

Solidarity between Raid des Alizés participants

A women-only and charitable raid

In the Raid des Alizés, each team takes part to support a charitable or social cause that is close to their heart and raise awareness of the association behind it. A wide variety of causes are represented, including health and the fight against certain diseases, disability, children’s welfare, support for vulnerable people, inclusion, solidarity and environmental protection.

Since its creation, the event has helped raise more than €300,000 for charities. Supporting charitable organisations is therefore an integral part of the adventure. Participants are thus able to put their efforts and determination towards commitments that go far beyond the sporting competition itself.
