Water, earth and fire are three elements represented in Martinique. Indeed, the territory is full of natural assets: paradisiacal beaches, tropical forests and volcanic mountains. Europcar Martinique offers you the rental of vehicles adapted to the roads and accompanies you through the north of the island.
Europcar Martinique is your vacation ally and has established a circuit focused on the north of Martinique. Residing in the center of the island? Move away from Fort-de-France and discover the upper part of the territory.
By taking the national road 3 in the direction of Fonds Saint Denis, you will reach the Route de la Trace. At the bend in the road, you will discover the exact replica of the Basilica of the Sacred Heart in Paris. Built in 1925, it honors the dead of the First World War. It serves as a place of worship for the people of Foyal and offers beautiful panoramas of the city
A few kilometers further on, venture into the heart of the Balata tropical garden. This remote place promises a total change of scenery and wonder. After parking your rental car at the foot of the Pitons du Carbet, you can begin your hike. The road to Balata is incredibly flourishing :
Balisiers
Hibiscus
Porcelain rose
Wild orchids
Giant and unusual trees
Then, you will have to take the Route de la Trace, about forty kilometers long, which winds through the "green lung" of Martinique. This forest massif starts in the center of the island and continues until Ajoupa Bouillon. This spectacular itinerary will lead you to the heart of a luxuriant tropical forest.
There reigns :
Tree ferns
Giant trees festooned with lianas
Thick clumps of bamboo
Breathtaking panoramas.
Once you arrive in Ajoupa Bouillon, "Les Gorges de la Falaise" will be revealed to you. From then on, a 1 kilometer walk awaits you (about 45 minutes) in the heart of the mountains. You will walk along a river embedded between 2 huge tropical cliffs. Waterfalls and watering holes will delight hikers during the hot weather.
Then take the road to go to the Montagne Pelée, on the Aileron side, by the D39 between Morne Rouge and Ajoupa Bouillon (10 minutes from the Gorges). It is preferable to plan the ascent of the volcano during the day. You will then be able to appreciate the sublime panorama offered to you.
To close this tour, enjoy the black sand beaches of the north of the island. Go to the town of Le Prêcheur, the last village in the north of the Caribbean. This village offers superb sunsets on the beach of Anse Couleuvre.
